| Impairment Rating Review
An Impairment Rating review is performed in order to: assess the accuracy of the impairment rating based on the provided documentation; and to determine if the rating followed the appropriate procedures as set forth by the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th edition. Inaccurate impairment ratings have a significant financial impact to all of the involved parties, which may include the patient, the employer, the insurance carrier and others.
Our physician reviewer's are highly experienced in impairment evaluations and determinations. Not only do they look at the appropriate use of the Guides, but also the medical accuracy of the impairment. It is not enough to say that an individual has impairment but there must also be clinical objective documentation to support the assessment.
The Impairment Rating review assists all involved parties by allowing more efficient use of their time and not having to spend hours trying to verify the accuracy of the impairment rating value. If ratings errors are noted or determined to be questionable, the issues are addressed by our reviewer's to include in-depth explanations with reference to the appropriate section in the Guides.
California Permanent Disability Rating, PD
PD rating in California begins with an accurate Impairment Rating (please note Impairment Rating Review above). PD ratings are calculated by multiplying the Impairment Rating by three separate modifiers: 1) Future earning capacity (FEC), 2) Occupation, and 3) Age. Apportionment issues are then factored in.
In the event that the provided Impairment Rating is correct, we will provide a PD rating based on the submitted calculation.
In the event that the Impairment Rating is incorrect, we will provide a corrected IR and a PD rating based on the corrected assessment.
This process assists all involved parties in making appropriate case determinations which may include disputing the IR and/or PD rating, negotiate to a compromise settlement or complete case resolution.
